Improved Mycobacterium avium Complex Detection Methods

Improved Mycobacterium avium Complex Detection Methods

Order Code: AW100

Price: £68.99

Mycobacteria are environmental opportunistic pathogens commonly associated with human disease. This objective of this research was to develop a highly accurate and reliable detection technique for Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC). Current detection methods do not provide accurate information about their true frequency and distribution in water distribution systems.

Specific objectives include:
  • Evaluation of liquid culture methods for growth of MAC isolates exposed to stress conditions similar to those encountered in the environment and during water treatment processes.
  • Optimization of water filtration and elution methods
  • Assessment of the effect of decontamination mathods on the growth of MAC isolates and potential microbial contaminants in finished water.
  • Identification of anti-MAC antibodies most likely to be successful for immunomagnetic separation (IMS) concentration.
  • Evaluation of newly developed IMS bead constructs for selective MAC concentration.
  • Establishment and evaluation of real-time capacity for a validated multiplex MAC PCR.
  • Evaluation methods for detecting surface-associated and planktonic water-habituated MAC.
