This is the Specification for use in all civil engineering contracts let by Water Undertakers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It supersedes the Fifth Edition (1998) and NS40 (Standard specification for water and sewerage schemes) for all contracts from June 2004. The Specification is based on performance requirements allowing the Contractor to decide upon his method of working. This 6th edition has been rewritten to take account of new European standards and is generic such that it can be used with any type of conditions of contract.
