The Drain Repair Book has been developed at the request of the Drainage Forum; a group of insurance companies are all members of the Association of British Insurers. Collectively they recognise that there is scope to improved the quality of repairs in the domestic drainage industry, and the effectiveness of all those who work within that industry by identifying and promoting best practice. It serves both as a guide to Drainage Specialists carrying out inspection and repair work, and to assist the insurance industry and others in auditing the work. The Second edition both updates and content of the First edition (published 2003) and extends the scope, in keeping with the Drainage Forum's desire for it to be a 'living document'. Changes have been made in response to users comments and particularly the feedback WRc get from attendees on the associated 'Essentials for Managing Drain Repair' training course. These include additional illustrations of pipe condition/serviceability, extension of the techniques to include reaming, re-rounding, pipebursting and patch repairs, clarification of lining specification requirements, and new section on legal aspects of drain repair and on the inspection of septic tanks. The Drain Repair Book covers the repair of 75mm to 250mm diameter drains and is split into four sections, offering guidance on the inspection and condition assessment of drains, a materials selection for cured-in-place repair systems and the new section on septic tanks.
